Your donations make an impact on our community.
Each dollar you donate stays right here in our community to help fund the healthcare needs of you and your neighbours.
Through the generous support of our donors, the Cobequid Health Centre Foundation funds, in full, a significant amount of the medical equipment required each year in order to provide quality care.
Below, please find a few of the ways you can get involved. Together, through fundraising and participation in these events and activities, we are growing and improving access to healthcare for our community.
Walk Run for the Health of Our Community
Each year in October, the Cobequid Foundation holds its annual Walk Run for the Health of the Community. This event promotes healthy living and exercise while raising funds for priority medical equipment for our community.
Participants can walk our 5km sidewalk route down Glendale Drive. The event includes prizes, games, face painting, barbecue, community vendors, and much more.
Over the past 30 years, this event has raised 1.8 million dollars for priority medical equipment. Join us and put your heart and your sole into your community.
Gift of Light
Annually starting in November, Cobequid Foundation captures the spirit of the season with the gift of light program. Donors can make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one. A tree lighting ceremony is held in December and the names of each individual being remembered is read aloud and an ornament is placed on Cobequid’s Christmas tree. This tree shines brightly until January 6th.
In addition, there is an online auction featuring items donated by our community. These items make perfect gifts for your friends, family and perhaps even something special to treat yourself too. All while supporting healthcare in your community.
Annual Public Appeal
Twice a year, in May and November, the Foundation mails letters to 65,000 households in our community. To be cost effective, rather than send addressed mail, we do these as a Postal Code Admail Drop to Bedford, Sackville, Fall River, Mount Uniacke and surrounding areas.
These mail outs usually feature a donor story, Cobequid Health Centre update, statistics on how many individuals we are helping and provide an opportunity to make a donation to fund a specific critical piece of equipment.
Thank you to our donors who each year open their hearts and their wallets to respond to this mail out, we truly appreciate your support. You are making more care possible here at the Cobequid Centre.
Cobequid Month
May is Cobequid Month – a month long campaign which raises funds and awareness for the Cobequid Health Centre Foundation. It is a celebration of all that Cobequid Centre means to our community.
To celebrate, the Foundation holds barbeques, cake cutting, bake sales, grocery bagging and other activities in the community. Each year we also hold a raffle on a painting generously donated by local artist Ruth O’Connell. Local volunteer groups and businesses often hold casual days and other events at their own locations and present a donation during this month.
All funds raised places critical medical equipment into the hands of our medical team so they can better care for your family right here in our community.
Angels In Action
Our Angels In Action program offers patients and their family members the opportunity to express their heartfelt appreciation to their healthcare provider.
Each day, the Cobequid Foundation interacts with donors and hear about the exceptional care patients and their families receive from our healthcare team. A patient can designate their healthcare provider an “Angel” by making a donation in their name to the Foundation. That donation goes on to fund medical equipment which helps continue the care here at Cobequid.
The healthcare provider receives a special letter for their human resources file and a pin to wear proudly. Often providing this recognition reinforces to the entire team that their work is appreciated and does not go unnoticed.

Third Party Special Events
Individuals, community groups or corporations can fundraiser on their own and donate the proceeds to the Foundation. Some examples could be dinners held at your home, casual days or bake sales at your place of business. To hold a third party event, please contact us in advance.
Planning or Legacy Giving
Planned giving is about ordinary people making an extraordinary difference. You can leave a gift in your will or through life insurance to the Cobequid Foundation. This will ensure that your estate will benefit from tax advantages and those dollars can be used to benefit your community and future generations. After providing for the security of your loved ones, you may wish to leave a gift to the Foundation in your will. A gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual amount left after all other heirs have been provided for. When making a gift in your will the correct wording designation is “Cobequid Health Centre Foundation”.
By naming the Foundation as the owner or beneficiary of an existing insurance policy, you will receive a tax receipt for any cash value in the policy and the resulting tax credit after your death could reduce the tax burden on your heirs. Purchasing a new life insurance policy and naming a charity as the owner and beneficiary will not only give a significant gift to a cause you care about, you will also receive a tax receipt for the annual premiums. This allows you to make a substantial future gift at a reduced after-tax cost.
Major Gifts
Major Gifts provide a complete source of funding to create a new program or purchase a piece of critical equipment. Although sometimes major gift donations are made as a one-time gift. Often these donations are made in multi-year pledges (usually 3-5 years) to enable donors to make a more significant investment then they could through a one-time cash gift. Major gifts can be made through cash, annuities, securities (stocks/shares), trusts, retirement funds, life insurance, or in-kind gifts. Major Gifts differ from donor to donor as we work together to make sure the goals you have for the gift are well matched to our organization.
Securities (Stocks/Shares)
Our Foundation welcomes gifts of securities, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Publicly traded securities that have appreciated since purchase will not attract any capital gains if donated directly to a charity. You will benefit by not having to pay income tax on any capital gain; the charitable donation tax credit should apply to the full value of the shares; and, the charity will receive the full value of the donation rather than your net after-tax amount if you sell and donate cash.
