Planned Giving

Planned giving means looking after your loved ones and remembering the causes you cared about during your life. Your gift is an expression of your values, your hopes and your dreams - a vision for better healthcare for our community.

A planned gift is when a donor makes a substantial gift for the future - one that's arranged now, but is realized at a later date.

Planning a gift to the Cobequid Health Centre Foundation may be as simple as naming the Foundation in your will, or it may involve giving in a number of ways over time to achieve a significant goal. A planned gift can:

  • improve healthcare for our community
  • be a lasting memorial to you or a loved one
  • reduce taxes on your estate
  • offer immediate tax savings

There are several options for your planned gift.  Each provides unique benefits and tax implications.  Here is some basic information on each giving opportunity.

You can make a monetary gift at any time, or you can make a bequest in your will to leave money to the CCHC upon your death.  Your estate will receive a tax receipt for the amount donated. Click here for more information on making a donation of cash.

A valid Will ensures that your estate benefits the people and the causes you care about. Many people undervalue their estate and without a Will this can result in dishonored wishes and payment of unnecessary taxes.

A bequest provides information and direction regarding money, assets or a portion of your estate to be given to the Cobequid Health Centre Foundation following your death.

A bequest can be added when you make or revise your will.  It allows you to leave a legacy for the future of healthcare.  A bequest offers tax benefits for your estate. We can provide you or your legal advisor with wording to assist in preparing your bequest or gift.

You can make a gift of a new or existing life insurance policy to Cobequid Health Centre Foundation.  Donors can choose annual premium deductions or a gift of the death benefit.  Tax saving are gained annually or in a lump sum from your estate. For more information.

RRSP & RRIF proceeds may be gifted directly or through your will to Cobequid Health Centre Foundation.  Your estate will receive a tax receipt for the value of the proceeds received by the foundation. For more information.

You can make a gift of publicly traded securities. You will receive a tax receipt for the value of the securities at the time they are transferred to Cobequid Health Centre Foundation.

When you dispose of securities you must pay tax on 50% of the capital gain (fair market value at the time of transfer minus the original cost to you).  By donating the securities, this tax is eliminated. For more information.

Capital property (i.e.: land and buildings) can be gifted to the Cobequid Health Centre Foundation.  You pay tax on 50% of the capital gain however, you receive a tax receipt for the value of the property at the time of the donation. For more information.
